Day Two, A Flurry of Great Games

A recap of day two of action from the TORHS 2 Hot 4 Ice Winter Cup

As day two came about, all of us on the TORHS 2 Hot 4 Ice staff were excited for our first full day of games. On day one we saw the first games to commence the tournament start at 4:10 and today we had a full boat of games starting at 6:40 am and the last game set to start at 1:40. Talk about a full day of hockey.

The weather outside certainly helped the ‘Winter Cup” live up to it’s name today. At one point a crowd gathered at the door to witness the crazy near whiteout blizzard that was occurring outside the Hot Shots Arena. This leaves one to think and feel for Joe, how could he leave sunny Florida for this? Well, I’ll tell you why; he had another great day filled with exciting games, not to mention the start of the playoffs in some divisions.

The highlight of the day in terms of the youth morning games was the Tour Roadrunners vs. Bulldawgz in the squirt division. Not only was it a game that presented 3 last minute goals and a crazy 9-8 final score but, it ended with a 10 round shootout! The Roadrunners only had eight skaters and had to have shooters shoot twice it went so long. It’s almost a shame that someone had to lose this game with the two teams playing so hard but the Roadrunners secured victory going into a frenzy after the gamer winner sailed into the net ending the marathon shootout.

As the day turned to night the youngsters gave way to adults and pro divisions. The Pro division was extra tight in terms of standings as they headed into the conclusion of round robin play. The Detroit Bordercats punched their ticket to the playoffs as they defeated the Tour Mudcats in an absolute thriller on a goal with just .8 seconds left on the clock.

That result set up a win or go home game between the Tour Roadrunners and the Revision Inferno. It was simple win and you’re in the pro playoffs, lose and you’re eliminated. The Roadrunners kept the game close until the Inferno pulled away with a flurry of goals half way through the second half. The Inferno playing in their home rink were just too much for a very young Roadrunner team.

The night ended with the first round of playoffs in adult Bronze and Sliver sending us deep into the night. No time to rest however we are back at it right away in the morning for championship Sunday.

Our first trophy will be awarded on Sunday for the Squirt Tier 2 championship followed throughout the day by Mite Tier 1 and 2, Squirt Tier 1, Atom, Adult Gold, Silver and Bronze, finishing with the much anticipated Pro Final at 4:40.

Don’t forget to check out the highlight reel for day two. I think it turned out better than day one, which was hard with all the great plays that made the reel for the opening day of the Winter Cup. However, the best daily highlight video is yet to come for tomorrow as we crown eight champions!

 See you tomorrow!

 Sincerely, Trefty
