Winding Down at The Wheel
As the last game of the night has just started here in St. Louis the playoff picture is beginning to take shape in all the divisions. We've had entertaining hockey all day with 6 games going to a shootout, and at least another half dozen that were 1 goal games late. Here is a brief rundown of what we know so far with seedings.
PeeWee Division:
1) Cobras - They finished a tough round robin schedule 4-0 and captured a birth in the Tier 1 Championship
2 vs. 3) This could go a few different ways. On paper it looks like it will end up being Tour Blast against Tour Jr. Mudcats Green, but if the Blast 01 team has another upset up it's sleeve they'll throw a major hiccup into the Tier 1 bracket.
4 vs. 5 - Tier 2 Championship) The St. Louis Dawgs 12U team has locked a spot in this game for sure, it's still up in the air as to who they'll play, but again if the chips fall the way they're expected to we should see a rematch of 2 of the stronger Squirt teams in the Mid-West play in this game.
Bantam:
1) Tour Blast - They finished tied with Mission Coast 2 Coast at 3-0 but the new first tie breaker of Goal Differential put the Blast in the Championship.
2 vs 3) An organizational battle is taking place as Mission Coast 2 Coast takes on Mission Coast 2 Coast 97 in the Tier 1 Semi-Final
4) Tour Blast Black - Finished up round robin at 2-1 and will play in the Tier 2 Championship
5 vs 6) The Dark Knights will face off against the Tour Jr Mudcats in the Tier 2 Semi-Final
Midget:
This one is anyone's game. The Mavericks have finished their round robin at 2-0-1, Mission Coast 2 Coast is 1-0 and up in their 2nd game now, and LU-FTB is 1-0-1 and will play Coast 2 Coast in the morning. That game will decide who ends up the #1 seed and will play the Tour Jr. Mudcats who are the #4 seed.
Pro:
What an awesome talent showcase this division turned out to be! I was talking with Kyle O'Kane earlier about how Missouri is definitely the deepest state when it comes to the Pro level of hockey. We've got 4 quality teams here made up of 99% St. Louis players, and there's a few big names still not playing. The semi-final matchups look like this.
1 vs 4) RB Selects vs. Mission Coast 2 Coast
2 vs 3) LeaderOne Financial vs. MO Meltdown
We will be back after the first round of playoffs tomorrow to get you up to date. Until then be sure to keep checking scores on the main page for all 3 regionals going on this weekend. We've got George and Evil in Mississauga, Mike and "Freak on Him" Joe in Langley, and Tyler and Myself here in St. Louis. Feel free to email any of us with questions or comments about this weekend.
On a side note, all of the previous regional event seedings are now up in the "RESULTS" section of the website. Be sure to check those out to see where your team ended up for Nationals this summer!
