Texas is puttin' on a show!

WOW!! Today has been awesome!  The Mite championship just finished up and it was arguably the GAME OF THE YEAR!  The Jets '04 team came into the game undefeated having already defeated their championship opponent- The Americans- twice- by a combined score of 16-4.  It looked as if it was going to be more of the same as the Jets grabbed a 5-0 lead with 8:11 left in the first period.  The Americans would get on the board just over a minute later to make it 5-1.  That score would have been commendable seeing what had happened earlier in the tournament between these two teams.  With 2:40 remaining, the Americans made it even more respectable as Trent Burlison would score to make it 5-2.  With the clock still running, less than a minute later, Owen Ramsey would make it 5-3, and slowly but surely everyone in the building would begin making their way to watch this game.  With the goalie pulled in favor of the extra attacker, the Americans would draw a penalty and the Jets would also take an unsportsmanlike on the same play.  The only problem was that there was under a minute left and there was a two goal differential so the clock would not stop and the Americans had already taken their time out after they scored their third goal.  Clock still running, the puck is dropped with :34 left on the clock and a shot from the point gets through for Owen Ramsey's second goal of the game and now the clock is stopped.  After the drop of the puck, the Jets had a glorious opportunity to wrap the game up, as they had a 2-on-1 with the empty net staring at them.  An amazing back-checking effort foiled that opportunity and with :12 seconds left- the Americans would tie the game at 5, completing the comeback on the strength of Owen Ramsey's hat-trick goal.  The game would go into overtime and no one would score in the five minute extra period.  So we go to the shootout!  The shootout would see seven players from each team go until a winner would be decided and the Americans, down by 5, halfway thru the final period of regulation would win the mite Championship 6-5.  The hockey down here has been awesome and it's only going to get better as we prepare to take over Houston Indoor sports at the end of April.

Last night, the adult divisions got intense.  Penalties were up, physical play picked up and we had close games and shootouts all night, making for a long, but exciting night.  Nothing has really been decided today for playoff seedings as of yet as Fry Steet Famous and the Lone Star Eagles will play in the gold division later in a matchup that looks like it will be for the #1 seed and a bye into the gold championship.  The two teams going home aren't clear as of yet either as the Top Ched/Golden Nuggets game made it to a shootout last night, which makes the playoff picture pretty murky! The Bronze/Silver division is still close but will clear up as we move thru the day.

We have the bantam Championship coming up here next as Luscious Flow will take on Green Eggs and Ham.  Those two teams split their series during round robin play so it should be a good one.  Luscious Flow is also playing in the peewee division and will be in the championship there as well.  This morning Brick Squad and the Other Guys would play to a shootout to see who would play Tier 1.  The Other guys pulled it out and Brick Squad will go into Tier 2 to play the Lone Star Dragons.

The atmosphere in here is pretty much "EPIC," to quote one of the adult guys after watching that mite championship and its setting us up for a great final day in Denton, and a great anticipation for Houston!
