Saturday night recap, Sunday morning update...

So it was a late night here at Choice Inline.  With the tourney running smoothly and Dave and George having everything under control, I made a spur of the moment decision and decided to head up the Turnpike to Newark to catch the Devils/Leafs game.  Unfortunately for me, the outcome was not what I was hoping, and the drive back was a bit of a drag.

However, when I got back to the rink just after midnight, the Midget and Mens playoffs were underway and the place was still rocking.  The Broadway Bullies, who travelled here from the Bronx, took home the Gold in the Mens Tier 2 Championship, defeating the Hersey Typhoon.  The Bullies were led by Brett Jackson, who took home both the top scorer award, and the top dishman award.  In the Mens Tier 1 Championship, the Scorchers came into the game cruising through their round robin play, and were considered to be the heavy favorite.  However, things did not go as well for them in the championship, as HockeyMutt.com captured the upset win and took home the Gold.

In the final game of the night, the Mission Black Ice defeated the Hershey Typhoon in the Midget division, completing a very long, but successful day for Jason Muro , who had his Black Ice teams here competing in the Mite, Squirt, and aforementioned Midget divisions.  Speaking of Jason, it is always nice to talk to him about the pulse of the sport of roller hockey.  He is as passionate about the sport as anyone I know, and I often say we need more Jason Muro's in the sport in order to take it to the next level.

Dave did the honors of opening up this morning, so when George and I got to the rink, the PeeWee and Bantam divisions were off and running, which means Vio is in the building.  I have yet to have a chance to say hello to him, as he has been on the bench the entire morning.  That being said, I did see a familiar face playing for Vio this weekend.  JJ Fecteau, who is a 99' birth year player, usually plays for the Mission Sting program out of Savannah, GA.  However, he is wearing the Roadrunners sweater this weekend, and appears to fitting in nicely.

We are still in the midst of round robin play, but we will be back to update you on the playoffs later this afternoon.  As always, scores are being tracked live on our website under the scoreboard tab.
