Championship Sunday

Well, it was another bright and early start here at Dumars' and with playoff hockey in the air at 7:00 A.M. the lack of sleep wasn't an issue for either Mike Bell or Myself (RB and Tom got to sleep in a little, but at least they made the "Timmy-Ho's" run on their way).

In early action the Butler Cobras AA team would knock off a team from their own organization, the Butler Cobras A team in the first Squirt Tier 2 Semi-Final and Alkali Impulse would upset Mission Farm Tough in the other Semi-Final to set our first Championship game of the day.  In the Final the Butler Cobras got off to an early lead and goaltender Nick Farmerie was an absolute wall stopping all 18 shots that Impulse sent his way to lead Butler to a 4-0 victory.

I'd like to give another huge thank you to the entire Cobras organization for making the trip out to Michigan this year.  They had a hectic schedule yesterday, but from talking to the coaches everyone seemed to have a great time at the Sterling Inn Waterpark at their hotel, and loved the atmosphere that we brought here to JDF.

In other championship action today, the Mission Bauer Bordercats Blue team lead by Phillip Gawlik, Cam Kasinec, and Calen Kiefiuk would knock off the Mission Bauer Bordercats White in the Squirt Tier 1 Final.  In Mite Tier 2 the Detroit Mission Stars would take home the gold defeating Mission Farm Tough 8-1, and in Mite Tier 1 Alkali Arsenal continued their streak of domination knocking off Reebok 02 Michigan 9-1.  Dominic James stole the show this weekend taking home both the Top Dishman and the High Scorer Awards.

A not so brief afterthought that I want to mention is the amazement I have with the Mission Farm Tough group.  Peter Dale has done an exceptional job with these young players, and it shows both on and off the rink.  Their talent, sportsmanship, and dedication is second to none, and Peter deserves a big chunk of the credit for that.  It was a pleasure talking to their parents this weekend, every single one of them had a great attitude about the tournament, facility, and sport in general.  I'm excited to know that the organization is coming back to Michigan in June for the TORHS2Hot4Ice North Nationals, we've made a lot of new friends over the weekend, and look forward to having those relationships grow this summer!

That's all for now, time to get back to watching great hockey in the Motor City!
